Setting up a home for your dwarf hamster:
Dwarf hamsters make great pets, particularly for younger children who want their first animal to love and care for. They can be kept in even the smallest of homes and do not require as much time as bigger animals such as dogs, so are ideal for busy families. Before getting a dwarf hamster it is important to consider how you will look after it and to ensure you have all the right equipment and supplies in place to give your new pet a long and happy life.
Rotastak dwarf hamster cages are the ideal home for your furry friend. The different pieces slot together so you can customise the set-up depending on your situation. This means that even rooms with little space are not overwhelmed by a large hamster cage. The bright colours also make these cages a fun addition to a child’s bedroom, and the different tubes ensure your pet can get the exercise he needs.
The multiple rooms allow the hamster plenty of space to sleep, eat and play, and the whole thing is safe and secure. There are no sharp edges to hurt your pet or your child and it is well ventilated with no chance of escape.
Your hamster’s home should be placed in a quiet spot in the house where the temperature remains constant and there is no direct sunlight, but bear in mind that dwarf hamsters are nocturnal and can make a lot of noise at night!
He will need some sort of bedding, such as shredded paper, which should be a couple of inches thick across the floor of the main bedding area. Never use cotton-wool or fibre-based materials as they can get stuck in his claws.
Your pet will choose one area to use as a toilet so any wet materials here should be removed and replaced daily. All other areas and toys should be fully cleaned and disinfected once a week.
